Penelope takes careful aim at the closest beetle and fires off an arrow.

OOC: Ouch. 17 vs. AC. If that even hits, it takes 11 dmg.

Yatagan steps over Heyoka's unconscious body and heals Lizzy back to consciousness.

Vox, switching to his sword, and Penelope have little effect, but at least their attacks draw some of the beetles' attention and keeps it from the tasty morsel that is Heyoka.

Lizzy, back on his feet, is a similar distraction, smashing one of the beetles again with his greataxe. Its carapace cracks and reddish fluid leaks from it.

Odanais, deciding that he needs to get Heyoka back in the fight, calls on the Pig to heal his ally and simultaneously seizes onto the other beetle with his icy fist. Heyoka, awakened by the Pig-god's blessing, opens his eyes and begins to swing wildly at the beetle legs near him.

The beetle grabbed by the hand pulls away from it and breathes another sheet of fire, washing over all except Penelope and scorching them. The other beetle, which is rapidly establishing itself as Lizzy's arch-enemy the way a certain rat was Odanais', bites into the dwarf's side.

The unconscious drake stirs and opens its eyes, but is still too befuddled to rise. The other drake stalks a little closer and, perhaps unable to pick out targets in the confused melee, spits a large gob of acid right past them and onto Penelope's burkha. And then looks surprised as a hissing, clawed ball of fury leaps from the rooftop and lands near it.

OOC: Your turn to go, so roll and post. Excel sheet is on the way.

Enemy status and damage taken: Drake 1 (dead), Drake 2 (prone), Drake 3 (doing just fine), Beetle 1 (47 pts; bloodied), Beetle 2 (dead), Beetle 3 (69 pts; badly bloodied)

Damage taken by PCs: Lizzy (48 pts), Heyoka (48 pts), Odanais (27 pts), Vox (38 pts), Penelope (7 pts), Yatagan (12 pts)

OOC: Psst - you all have Action Points!

Ed, in case you weren't completely clear on action point usage yet, using one lets you take an extra standard action on your turn. So, for example, you can attack and then use an AP and attack again. Or use Second Wind to heal yourself (which is a standard action) and attack too. And so on.

"RAWR!" shouts Yatagan in Draconic. It is both a threat and a prayer. Draconic can be a very... compact language, depending on the circumstance.

The Dragonborn's axe whirls around him trailing sparks and seed, striking both beetles hard.

OOC: Mark Beetle1 (minor), Piercing Strike on Beetle3 - 23 vs. REF, 18 damage, use Divine Strength (minor), use Action Point, Enfeebling Strike on Beetle1 - 27 vs AC, 21 damage (using Gauntlets - free) - Beetle1 takes -2 on attacks until the end of Yatagan's next turn.

Odanais takes a moment to catch his breath, then lets loose with a storm of fire upon the two drakes.

Action point spent.

Second Wind: +9 hp (which still leaves him bloodied, so +2 on AV and saving throws & of course his Shield spell is ready to pop on if useful).

Scorching Burst (vs. reflex): 16 (drake 2), 15 (drake 3), 8 points fire damage

Maintaining Icy Hand.

Cursing at the holes burned into what had once been a fairly nice tunic, Vox levels his crossbow and fires at one of the drakes...merely grazing it, alas, as the bolt slams into the dock with a thud.

He back quickly away, ducking behind some crates and taking a deep breath. "This isn't nearly as heroic as I'd hoped for," he mutters. "Damned cats should just fend for themselves."

OOC: Take a shot at D2 with Walking Wounded -- a 12 vs. Fort is probably a miss, so only half damage -- 6 points. Follow that up by moving to C6 and blowing an Action Point to take his Second Wind and regain 10 points.

Though peeved about the drake, Penelope decides to again take aim at the closest beetle.

OOC: Crit and 23 vs. AC, dmg in another post..

Deciding that he needs to keep on his feet, Heyoka activates his armor's protective ability (minor, gain resist 10 to all damage until end of his next turn) and uses his longtooth shifting (regeneration 2 while bloodied and +2 damage till end of encounter) and second wind (blowing 2 healing surges, due to his Parry Gauntlets & recovering 26 hp, and gaining a total of +4 to all defenses till the start of his next turn).

Yatagan unleashes a flurry of blows, finally bringing down Lizzy's obdurate foe, and a moment later Penelope buries two arrows in the other beetle, dropping it in its tracks.

Vox, switching back to his crossbow, wings one of the drakes and backs away behind some of the crates. Which, he belatedly realizes, the beetles' fiery breath has set on fire. Small flames are licking at the side of the wooden building which the crates were piled against.

Lizzy, with no target nearby, fights off the pain of his wounds and rushes up to the nearest drake, cutting it in half with two sweeps of his axe. (OOC: I used his Second Wind as a minor action and had him then move and attack the closest drake with Dizzying Blow, doing 30 damage & immobilizing it, followed by using an action point to attack again with Sure Strike and kill it)

Heyoka, rather than rushing into the fight again, uses a number of his magical items to raise his defenses.

Meanwhile, Odanais scorches the remaining drake, which leaps back to its feet with a scream and flees down the alleyway behind it as fast as its legs will carry it.

OOC: Fight's over. Yay!

Enemy status and damage taken: Drakes 1 & 3 (dead), Drake 2 (14 pts), Beetles (dead)

Damage taken by PCs: Lizzy (35 pts), Heyoka (22 pts), Odanais (27 pts), Vox (28 pts), Penelope (7 pts), Yatagan (12 pts)

When Penelope nears the window which the beetles had focused on (and from behind which the now slowly diminishing caterwauling is coming), she's rewarded by having a sharp polearm jabbed towards her face. The man behind the weapon, his grizzled beard now fairly patchy and his face red and burned, pulls back on the weapon just in time. "Hey - you're not one of those monsters!" he says, with a combination of relief and surprise, "Are they gone? Is it safe?"

"Yeah, I'm not a monster," Penelope says grumpily, peeved about the polearm. Her anger diminishes slightly as she looks past the man, trying to catch sight of the felines. "It's safe now. Are the cats okay?"

The man quickly looks behind him and then turns to say, "Yeah, they're fine. Hold on!" There's the sound of bolts being drawn back and the door is quickly opened. Revealed behind the man in the doorway is a large room full of cats. Dozens of them, standing, walking or climbing all over a myriad perches and structures built for feline use. Some look agitated and are calling loudly, but the majority seem to have calmed down.

The man, still carrying the polearm, steps out and looks around to see the dead beetles and drakes. "Phew!" He whistles loudly and looks again at the adventurers. "I'll be damned! Praise the Gods that you arrived in time to save me and the little darlings." He glances adoringly at the building of cats and then looks back to stick out a hand. "I'm Gideon Fix, harbormaster. And in your debt! I ..."

Fix pauses and looks down at Sappho, who is now standing in the doorway to the building, eyeing the cats inside with an expression which says she can take any number of them. "Oh!" Fix says, "You've got a cat too? She's a beauty!" Sappho, who has probably never heard that word applied to her by anyone except Penelope, turns and bestows a baleful glare on him.

"We're quite happy to see you and your darling charges unharmed, Master Fix," says Odanais, picking up one of the friendlier cats and petting it lovingly. "Have you any idea why you were being attacked in such extraordinary fashion?"

Maybe I shouldn't have run away from my cat-lady legacy after all, Penelope thinks, gently nudging Sappho with her foot. After giving the menacing cat a brief, disapproving look, she returns her attention to Gideon. "I'm Penelope. This beautiful creature is Sappho."

"We were glad to help you," the archer adds, sounding less foreboding than usual, "though my colleagues might try talking you into paying them some sort of fee." She looks past Fix for a few moments, her focus on the numerous felines. "I'm glad your cats weren't hurt. They're lovely."
