As the group proceeds outside, the two bailiffs continue to study the adventurers carefully. Once outside the compound, Guyon says, "Do you have any preference for where we begin?"

"Thank you, Guyon," says Odanais. "Is there anyone you know, be they city official or criminal informant, who might know details about which arena moguls are trafficking in which monsters? If so we might start there."

"Good idea." The two bailiffs confer for a moment, consulting a document they are carrying, and then Bramante says, "You said these creatures were transported by ship, correct? We know of someone who might know about what animals have recently been bought and sold here, and might also know about the movement of ships from the docks here. We'll try to find him and also check some of the dockside taverns for information. Also," she continues, "Some people might be less willing to give us information because we are the law here. Would you gentlemen and," she nods at Penelope, "You, lady, be willing to do a little investigating on your own in such areas if needed?"

A couple of the League-members get the impression that she is curious to see how far they are willing to go with this investigation and is testing them.

"That makes good sense," agrees Odanais. "Let's give that a try."

With Lizzy and Vox having rejoined them, the now fairly large group proceeds to hit some of the dockside taverns and dig for information, as well as making a trip to the docks. Information is sparse and hard to come by, but after a few stops the investigators pick up a lead regarding the fire beetles. It seems that Decimus Loach, one of the primary purveyors of beasts to the Ethical Circus, had an expedition return from the Interior a little over a fortnight ago with a number of fire beetles (and other animals).

"Loach," Bradamante says as the group leaves the tavern where the gained the information, "Owns a bar-cum-casino which also has a fighting ring in the basement, though he mainly sells animals and rarely puts on exhibitions himself. Unfortunately, he's likely to just give us false information if we try to get it from him. This might be a place where doing some less 'official' inquiries would help. Guyon and I can show you to the place and wait nearby while you see what you can find."

If the others agree, the two bailiffs lead them to another part of the district, and finally indicate a large building, with a sign which proclaims it to be the Gold Golem Gambling Hall. "There you go," says Guyon.

OOC: Does Vox tell the others about the "challenge" he has left for Amadeus Perigee, and esp. that it's from Yatagan?

Absolutely.

Vox waves airly at the party as they enter, taking long draught from his tankard as he does.

"Good news," he says cheerily, "I've arranged to deliver Perigee into our hands. I've presented him with a challenge -- in your name, naturally, Yatigan, as I'm not nearly famous enough to be a draw. Really quite artful, too, although in retrospect I should probably have mentioned his mother....

"He'll doubtless show up, all full of blood and bluster, ready to teach you a lesson for those things that you, through the medium of my pen, said about him. And when he does?" He makes a throat-slitting gesture, and broadens his smile a little further.
