Clagoff has money and, clearly, influence. But we have a god. If we can get a moment alone w/Isadora we could offer her a future miracle --perhaps 'restored youth'-- in exchange for backing out of Clagoff's play or 'taking a dive'.

We obviously can't guarantee the god will grant her a miracle. But unlike most of the other things we say, its not an outright lie (the god is in his pants!). Yatagan hopes it would tempt her. Even if she rebuffs the deal it might be enough to throw off her performance.

When Asarlai brings in the poster, Heyoka can't help but blurt out, "Oh Cool! This is going to be so awesome! Oh my Dog, it's gonna have Isadora Althing!"

Then Heyoka notices the rest of the group, and tries to cover. "Um, I mean, yeah that's a big tragedy, um, for us. for our play I mean. Yeah."

Heyoka then tries to subtly take the poster from the table and run up to his room.

When he walks down a few minutes later, and overhears the discussion of about funding, Heyoka adds., "If we need the money that badly, we could always.... um... ask some of my cousins for a loan." Heyoka's tail curls between his legs and his head lowers in a hangdog expression. "But we'd have to pay it back RIGHT AWAY! No delay, no excuses! Um, and we'd have to pay a lot of interest. Or else." Heyoka actually looks nervous about this, and rubs his neck uncomfortably.

The next morning:
Quote :
He pauses and sips at his wine, before adding, "I can say on behalf of Lord James, that he would be quite happy to help finance your play. In fact, he would go so far as to not ask for any of your profits. Perhaps, considering your unique abilities, you could simply do him ... a favor in the future?"
Heyoka looks incredibly relieved. "Oh thank Dog! Yes! Anything! A favor, definitely! Just please don't behead us."

I love the "Oh my Dog" thing!

Quote :

Pandarus smiles at Heyoka's words and nods. "Lord James will be pleased to hear that. He hopes this may lead to a happy and prosperous partnership in the future. But, for now, of course, you have a play to put on, so I will not bother you further. Just a question before I go - could you tell me which day you wish to put on the play, so that I can take care of the arrangements at The World for you?"

Once he has been informed of the date of the play, Pandarus says, "Thank you. I wish you best of luck with the play. And for any minor costs which you might incur, here's a little help." As he rises, he produces a bag of coins from a pouch and places it on the table. He smiles and adds, "If you like, consider that down payment for a box seat please. Lord James would like to watch the play."

The eladrin then bows and heads for the door.

Vox watches the Eladrin leave, shaking his head all the while. "How many times can you sell your soul? Doing a favor for Heatshimmer? Whose throat are we going to end up cutting, do you think?"

"To save the pig, they put on a play," say Odanais, counting the money. "To save the play, they made a deal with a mobster...."

"Since the soul is an infinite quantity, it stands to reason a single soul can be sold an infinite number of times" says Yatagan authoritatively.

"Now, before I dive back into the vast and chartless sea of Creativity from which I'm attempting to pull our play, is there anything else we need to discuss? Are we settled on Count Orquiel? Since, as Mr. Cadaveris pointed out, he is an accomplished, if unorthodox, dancer, should we ask Medallion?"

"The ends frequently justify the means" says Yatagan reverently as he quotes the Dragon Catechism.

There is 250 gp in the bag. More than enough to cover for costumes, props, etc, especially since The World is going to be able to cover you in a lot of those areas. At least financially, the group's got just what it needs to put on the play.

Isn't it nice when you have people who like and patronize the arts? And generous DMs?

We know this will end badly. Must you rub it in?

Does anything else happen that day? What happens to Odanais at the Gossamer Pillow?

Oh ye of little (or is that instead too much) faith...

Moving quickly through a few things, since we are a little short on time:

* Once the adventurers check at the World, they discover that a very sizable donation has been made in their name for a special, single day performance at the playhouse. The manager and owner of the theater, a former actor named Hemming Condley, is evidently a little aghast when he finds who will be using his theater, but he recovers quickly and shows the League-members around the premises and introduces them to those they need to meet.

* Money is spent on such things as sexy wraith costumes, lots of fireworks, fake pig, and having unemployed artists in the Quadrille paint lots of posters announcing the play

* A little checking confirms that Count Orquiel is not going to appear in any play, so when Hax and his orcish escort (and gnome) return, he is informed that the Count is to be the third judge. He has also evidently learned that the group is going to be putting on their play at the World and seems seriously surprised.

* Odanais makes his way to the Gossamer Pillow and eventually gets to spend an hour with Carl/Clarice as Elizee. While their time together is almost as blissful as the mage had imagined it would be, (s)he has no interest in performing in the theater, or leaving the brothel for that matter. Tamora Swiftly also has no interest in putting money into the play, but does promise to mention the play to their clients and in the area.

OOC: The PCs would be busy as hell with setting up the play until it actually occurs, but you can always make a little time for other matters, so let me know if there's anything you particularly plan to do. Also, how many of you are actually going to Clagoff's play? Apparently Heyoka will be doing so, seemingly with a certain poster and an autograph book clutched in his hairy little fanboy paws. What about the rest of you?

Yatagan drafts the play and then oversees the production/rehearsal at The World. He's uncharacteristically concerned with the little details, like the pulley and bucket system needed for the wet-wraith dance number, and the destructible areas of the set that Odanais is going to Thunderwave dramatically.

Yatagan is... in full armor, with a bouquet of flowers for Isadora Althing.

"A thought occurs," Vox says suddenly. "This may be a trifle unethical for you, Yatigan, but...well, perhaps not. I am in possession of a rather simple arcane ritual, one known as 'The Spell of Compelling Necroresonance'. It allows the subject's words to be clearly heard by all within range, regardless of the background noise, as otherwise mindless spirits are compelled to repeat them."

He waves a hand. "Husks, really. Pitiful things; souls that have never passed over, and have succumbed to the equivalent of senility. Happy to have something to do, in any case.

"The point is that your editorial comments regarding Clagoff's production may be heard by all within the theater. And you may pass the effect of the spell to another with the touch of your hand, so that -- for example -- Odanais may share his caustic wit with the audience. The spirits speak in the same voice as the focus of the spell, mind, so there may well be some small risk."

"Talking in the theater isn't unethical Mr. Cadaveris, it's merely rude" says Yatagan. "Can this ritual be transferred to a lesser form, say a barking dog?"

"A shame" says Yatagan. "Still, an effective-sounding stratagem. If you or Odanais wish to play theater critic, by all means do so. Hells, you can even give Heyoka a turn. He'll love Clagoff's play, so no one can accuse us of not being fair or balanced'.

He pauses.

"Personally, I'll not disturb his tragedy. My recent experience writing a work of theatrical significance has left me with too much respect for the Art. I'll let Clagoff ruin his play with his own words."
