Yon sooty foe is surprised you're trying to bare-hand tackle an armed combatant. This surprise contributes to him missing with both sword and dagger as Web'r appraoches. However, he quickly regains his composure and dodges the tackle. Web'r and Pogsley go sprawling. The man elects not to counter against them. Instead, he runs out the door.

After his forcible dismount, Pogsley somersaults across the floor, hops to his feet, and bolts through the door. If he can get a bead on Mr. Sooty, he'll launch two arrows at him (one of which hits with a natural 20 for 8 points of damage).

OOC: roll for init, it's a new round. You'll definitely hit with the 20, he's still visible, although the soot is beginning to fade away as the magic of the dust asserts itself. If he wins intit, he'll make it outside.

Mr. Sooty's init: 5

OOC: the only reason I'm remembering is we're playing this by post...

Mr. Sooty makes a bee line for the trader's post across the village square from the inn. Detective Pogsley nails him square in the back with an arrow before he gets halfway. The two guards set to watch the laden wagon in from the post appear startled by Mr. Sooty, who is beginning to re-invisibilize.

OOC: go get 'em Web'r! For the record, Mr. Sooty has taken 36 points of damage, but 20 of those are non-lethal, which heal at 1/round.

Web'r lurches to his feet and charges forward, swinging his fists more or less randomly. "Beware," he calls out, "The sooty man has blasphemed the Wall Spirits! And killed someone," he adds, between punches.

OOC: 11 and 12 to-hit, 72% and 98% respectively.

OOC: Web'r started this round prone, Mr. Sooty won initiative, and he's just running away (not stopping to murder passers by)... so Web'r won't be able to catch up and punch him. The best he can manage is another flying tackle.

Web'r leaps at Mr. Sooty again. Sooty spins and tries to block with the point of his dagger, which doesn't work too well for either party (Web'r takes 6 damage). Then Web'r lands on top of him and knocks him out cold. All at once, the soot vanishes, and the body under Web'r becomes invisible once more.

Someone in the trading post lights a lamp. Another guard emerges from the front door and confers with the two already outside. So Web'r's in the middle of the village square, in his undies, with the world-be assassin, invisible but pinned beneath and unconscious, with three men-at-arms chattering excitedly two dozen feet away.

Detective Pogsley is standing in the inn doorway, bow at the ready. Homily trudges out towards Web'r. "I'll keep you safe Mr. Web'r. With... umm... my imvisible shield!"

edit: I should add, Web'r does feel slightly safer as Homily gets within 10ft of him.

OOC: we are -- at the moment-- off initiative.

"Another victory, Master Pogsley! Praise to the Wall Spirits, and to the Fire Spirits for their aid!"

Web'r brings a fist down on the man's head; best to be sure he's not simply playing possum.

"What now, sir? Another feast?"

Web'r punches the unconscious man. He is now less conscious, and slightly closer to actual death. Some of the substance he used to render himself invsible comes off on Web'r's fist. It's somewhere between sand and ground glass. The grains don't quite break the skin.

As Web'r turns to address Pogsely, the detective sees the three men across the square remove longbows from the wagon they're guarding.

Pogsley walks towards Web'r. "Fear not, villagers! The un-look-at-able assassin who murdered Mr. Elmomo had been defeated!"

He pokes the invisible fiend and then, recalling Web'r stroke of genius, vomits the remaining contents of his stomach onto the helpless murderer. "Now he look-able!"

A few drunken villagers staggered back from the feast approach the square to see what all the commotion is. Eli the innkeeper appears in the door. His daughter Lim is at his side. "Wake Beard" he says to her.

Quote :

Web'r rolls off the fiend just in time. Mr. Sooty is now Mr. Vomit-y. Pogsley notices he's let go of his weapons; a short sword with funny runes along the blade and a thin dagger with a fat, cylindrical pommel...

... he also notices the three men, now armed with longbows, taking aim at Web'r and himself. He finds this rather surprising, but thanks to his goblin reflexes, he isn't caught unaware.

Unlike Web'r... who gets grazed by 3 arrows (5 damage). After loosing a a volley they take cover behind the wagon.

OOC: that was the surprise round - roll initiative - they got a 6.

One man-at-arms notices Pogsley's short bow and shoots at him. The other two fire on Web'r. Apparently their diet lacks carrots; their night vision is terrible.

Web'r gets dinged again for 2 damage.

Web'r lunges forward, grabs Homily, and shoves her behind him. "Get to safety, little one!" he bellows, as he throws a stone towards the archers.

OOC: Web'r still wasn't fully recovered from his battles of the previous day, but I'm not sure how many HP he had left. It's safe to say that he's about ready to pass out, though; another shot will certainly take him down.

17 to-hit, no idea what the damage would be, if anything.
